GHOULS GHOULS GHOULS. [19 Dec 2009|05:22pm]

I'm an anxious goon who apparently soothes herself through drawing radioactive zombies, so this week I drew a lot of radioactive zombies (if you don't like my icon, aha, don't look under the cut):

Because it's all downhill from there! )

THE END. Now to finally pack, since I just realized I should probably do that before tomorrow's journey to the promised land.

Oh, hello. I am home and alive. Not only was I not tired on the drive, but I had ridiculous energy for the second leg, and jammed out in the car to various songs, including, but not limited to:
  • "Dancing With Myself", Billy Idol
  • "Tik Tok", Ke$ha
  • "Whatcha Say", Jason Derulo
  • "Dig", Incubus
  • "Party in the USA", Miley Cyrus
  • "Bust It Baby", Plies and Ne-Yo
  • "Replay", Iyaz
Seriously, I got like, way too into it. Hand motions, grooving in the seat, drumming on the dashboard, yelling lyrics, all in excess of 90 MPH when I could.

Sorry for spamming today but:

Change of plans. We're supposed to get mad snow tomorrow, so I'm gonna pack up and leave after my final today. Wish me luck because I've never driven home in the dark and I will probably be pretty tired so I might die.

I have grades for geog, medieval lit, and the Joyce seminar: all A's. I got a 72% on the EGEE final, apparently, which puts my final grade at like 80% it looks like. :\ Oh well, it's my fault for not studying and always forgetting to take the online quizzes. As long as I actually manage to graduate college, I'm not really concerned about my grades, but it's still kind of a bummer. I hope I do well on the mythology final so I can get at least a B. I actually might be put on probation from the honors college next semester because my GPA is already pretty close to the minimum (which is like a 3.5 or some shit) and this will pull it down. I'm not sure what that'd entail since I'm graduating (hopefully) at the end of next semester and also I'm supposed to be doing my thesis. If I'm on probation do I not do it?

ETA: Hmm, apparently my GPA as of last semester is 3.73. So either the minimum is something ridiculous like 3.7 or I'm farther from it than I thought.

ETA2: Just sold my mythology text back for $30, bringing my total sell-back cash to $113.75. Baller.

As you've probably noticed, I'm back from New York.

I was there visiting [info]commiesharefest, who is, if you don't know, my girlfriend. It was suitably fantastic.

It was kind of weird, I suppose. I was technically a tourist, but I wasn't that interested in the touristy stuff. We saw Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Met, the Museum of Natural History... we actually saw a lot of stuff, come to think of it, but most of what I remember was the smooshy girly parts where we got all cuddly. Which is gross and totally gay, so I'll focus on the manly sightseeing.

There were times when I did stop and marvel at things. Manhattan sometimes seems like a giant shopping mall. Everything we passed was a store or a restaurant or something. There was a street vendor on every corner. If I had to call anything my least favorite part, it was probably Canal Street or Times Square, and only then because I hate people and they were pretty much unavoidable.

Let me try to break this down by day.

If I can make it there, I can make it anywhere! )

That was my trip. It's a bit stream of consciousness, so forgive me that, but I'll probably talk more about it once I get the pictures back. (By the way, I've missed you guys, too.)

Okay, written out, that doesn't seem like a lot, but I usually don't have any sort of plans for characters, so it is a lot for me. Also there is a lot going on in his life right now and I have to fucking struggle to pace shit out instead of what I want to do which is just have everything happen RIGHT NOW quick quick quick.

Good-bye, Neo. [18 Dec 2009|12:35pm]

Well, I just posted a note in the OOC comm, but figured I'll mention it here too.

I have officially taken my leave from Neo. It was a decision I put off for a loooong time, because I had just so much fun at that game, and I enjoyed the players I met there so much, and I loved my characters. But the truth is I just haven't been able to get back into it, even with my best intentions. The game moved on without me, and I just couldn't figure out how to reincorporate.

Nick was the first guy in Magic, and I really wanted to see him through to the end, but it's become impossible. I'm moving to New Zealand on January 11th, and that plus the preparations beforehand would make me unable to participate in the final plot. All the plots lately haven't worked out with RL timing for me, and this one was the biggie. There was just no point putting it off any longer if I can't be a part of it.

So I just want to say thank you to all the players I met at Neo. You are all amazing writers and hugely inspiring. I hope your creativity takes you far, because it has been a joy to read your stuff and interact with your myriad of interesting characters. I'll see you around the CDJ block, and I hope very much to play with you all again sometime.

A special thanks to the players of (I don't know everyone's CDJ, otherwise I'd specifically say names :[) the LEFG, Toni, Annie, Greta, Quinn, Christian, Jamie, Agnes, Fergus, Saoirse, and Regina, because you were all key to how great and enjoyable Nick was, and in the end, he was easily the one I think of when I think of Neo. Although Esme was a great amount of fun, and for her a special thanks to the players of Dean von Kyphos, Judy, Quinn again, and Professor Jones.

Finally, thank you to the mods, Julie, Ryan, Sarah, and Emily, for creating such a fabulous and intricate game!

Much love to all of you.

So [info]edmee brought up a good subject that I would like to discuss a little.

Edmee discussed about the American culture and how Americans seem like they want to reach back and grab something from their ancestory and usually fail somehow. I thought she made a lot of great points. You are removed from the country and your culture evolved away from that. Irish-American is vastly different than regular Irish for instance. That is just like if you isolate any group. Different types of culture evolve. But soon people don't even pronounce the names correctly (showing the culture change) etc.

I know some people get really irritated when someone proclaims they are a certain ethnicity, Americans are the most guilty of it. I think Americans are just seeking for an identity because diversity is what we are as a nation.

But there are a few things I noticed in the replies that i thought were interesting. One is people left their countries so they're no longer apart of it. Yes, that to a degree is true. My great-grandparents left Ireland because they were Protestant in a predominantly Catholic nation and decided to screw it. Some people's ancestors or some people did not CHOOSE to leave their countries but they had to for safety reasons. I hate reaching back but I have a Scottish ancestor who fought in the British Civil War and was caught and told he had the choice of death or colonies (SUCH A HARD CHOICE). I'm SURE he loved his country of Scotland very much. People probably pass that love of the home culture to their children.

I find it very true with groups that consider themselves part of a diaspora. They're strongly attached to their culture and consider themselves part of an ethnic group. I think of the Kurds which is the largest ethnic group in the world without a country for instance.

Then I think about this one incident that happened at my last unit. My friend Sanchez was arguing with this girl Nelson. Nelson is half-Japanese but doesn't speak a word of Japanese and her first name is Christine etc. Her mother left Japan mainly because she wanted to. She disliked the country of origin and fully became American. Sanchez is Puerto Rican. I asked Sanchez later why they were arguing. Sanchez said, "Nelson is half-Japanese but doesn't know a word of the language! That is insulting to her background! I speak Spanish. I taught my children Spanish and they will teach their kids Spanish! It is my heritage and my culture." I joked and said, "So by your logic I should be fluent in French, Italian, Scots, Irish, Welsh, and Heron?" And he said with a straight face, "yes." I always found that conversation interesting because why shouldn't you be proud of your heritage? American culture is about diversity and celebrating diversity.

Perhaps it is best to say, "I have Irish ancestory" or whatever rather than Irish. It is a connection. Maybe not a strong connection but it is there. I know it is easy for people to say, "You're an American. That's it." I think that is stretching it a little bit. I'm sure when your ancestors first came to America, they still considered a part of them from the country they're from and probably tried to pass it down to their children. It got watered down a little and blended which is what the American culture is, but I think it is a little unfair for people to dismiss that distant connection. But at the same time, I think people should be proud to be an American, despite the fucktards from our country (I often found it amusing when I stayed in hostiles, people were shocked to see an American and complimented my politeness). We're the nation of outcasts... the lunch table in the cafeteria at school that all the non-conformists sat and made room for you if you wanted it. Those kids were the cool kids.

This isn't CDJ or anything, but I really need to share~

Mom decided that we should open gifts tonight instead of Saturday, so we can go spend the day seeing "Avatar" and eating. I was okay with this~ And thus...I bring to you....

THE KING )

I also received a World of Warcraft desktop calendar. It has 365 days and 365 places in WoW! I'm not really shocked that there are 365 different places in game, but at the same time I just want to be all "that's sad." I got new socks, both GLEE CDs, Pocky, and batteries lol.

Hmmm, I am still not sure. Someone on [info]find_a_pb said they were making icons of Demi Moore from G.I. Jane, and maybe that would be better, idk. Maybe I should post these to my neglected icon journal, lol. I was also playing around with the coloring on the caps a bit, so they all look toooootally different, whoops.

Edit: Oh yeah, this is for this character, possibly. I have been stressing out soooo much about this PB choice.
